Surfer Girl
When you think of surfing, like most sports really, it can be tempting to picture the participants all as boys. In surfing, it doesn’t helped that surfer boys have a reputation for being ladies favorites in the ways the maybe only rock stars and movie stars also are. But in fact there are tons of surfer girls out there on those waves as well, and sometimes those surfer girls put the boys to shame. Women surfers are becoming more and more respected for their skill and their contribution to the sport, and there are not many surfing competitions that allow women participants or are just for surfer girls as well. Plus, the men now have their revenge on those women who are always chasing the surfer dudes around. Ever since the Beach Boys sang the words, little surfer, little girl and since Sally Field won hearts over as Gidget, the boys have been after the surfer girls almost as much as the girls have been after those hot surfer boys.
About Surfer Girls
Female surfers used to always turn heads and at the most would get patronized by the male surfers for wanting to give the waves a try, not unlike the character of Gidget. These days, however, surfer girls are the norm. When you see someone riding one of those waves into the harbor, you can’t be sure that is a man on that board any more. In fact, some people say that surfing girls actually have a few advantages over their male rivals when it comes to this sport. Their normally smaller frame makes it easier to maneuver on the board and their normally shorter height makes balancing easier. Heavy surfboards may be a problem for some surfing girls, but newer, lighter boards are taking care of that problem. From Brazilian women surfers to English women surfers to women in surfers in sunny California, surfer girls are riding those waves around the world.
Surf board manufacturers have taken notice of the huge increase in women surfers and have responded with ladies’ surfing shorts and other surfing gear designed with women in mind. Some companies now cater exclusively to women.
