Surfboards

When you want to become a surfer, of course you will need to learn how to balance on the board, how to judge waves, and surfing safety tips, but one of the most important things you have to do before you get to any of that stuff is to choose the right surfboard. The right surfboard can make all of the difference when it comes to your surfing; with the right board, you will find it easier to balance and easier to manage the waves. Of course, the right board depends on what kind of surfing you want to do and what level you are at. Surfboards have changed a lot throughout the years, and there is much more to a board than just a plank of polished wood or plastic. Learning about surfboards is crucial to becoming the best surfer you can be.

What To Look For In A Surfboard

Professional surfers and even skilled amateur surfers almost always go for the smallest, thinnest board they can find (one notable exception is big wave surfers, who go for the biggest board they can find). While these surfboards are capable of building up a lot of speed, they are not suitable for beginners – they’re just too fast when you’re learning to balance on the water. For beginning surfers, you should look for a long, thick surfboard. The surfboard fins are not an issue at this stage as much as the length and the width – try to find a surfboard that is at least 7 feet long and 3 inches thick (though make sure to get one you can carry easily). Leave all of the fancy surfboard designs for later down the line. Right now, look for a board you can manage in the water while you’re learning.

When you’re a beginning surfer, you should also look for cheap surfboards for sale. Lost surfboards, swept out to sea, are common with new surfers, as are dings and dents. A use surfboard can be a perfect choice for your first board; when something happens to your board, it won’t be as big a deal as something happening to a more expensive model. Save the Roxy surfboards and Fish surfboards until you’re a little more comfortable in the water. While it may seem like you are the only one on the beach with the long and thick surfboard design, don’t sweat it. In the history of surfboards, everyone has started out with one just like it. You can graduate to flashier models soon enough.
