Hawaii Scuba Diving
Who does not love Hawaii? Scuba diving paradise, hot spot for honeymooners, get away for those who want to visit the sites shaped by Pele, and of course the kind of dream vacation that many spend years saving up for! Fortunately for the latter set, the advent of extensive cruise traffic to and around the Hawaiian islands has made the dream come true just a bit faster for many. There are those who love to go scuba diving in Hawaii, and many cruise operators are ready to accommodate them. Others enjoy just soaking in the rays, spending hours on white beaches, or instead taking helicopter tours to watch up close and personal majestic water falls that are inaccessible by any other means.
For all those who are contemplating a cruise, scuba diving, Hawaii visits, and beach activity, here are four tips that will make sure you will get what you want and more!
1. Before you scuba dive, Hawaii – just like any other state – expects you to know the safety procedures associated with the activity. If you are already certified, you may just need a refresher on procedures, but if you have never gone diving before, you will want to verify with the cruise line that as part of the excursions to Hawaii, scuba diving is on the itinerary. At the same time, find out if there will be an instructor on board to give passengers on the cruise to Hawaii scuba diving lessons.
2. Talk to the cruise line about the contracts for goods and services they have with local tour operators, hotels, and other locations. For example, for island visitors who go scuba diving, Hawaii hotels will often offer discounts on boats. Will your cruise line offer similar discounts for you if you tag along, even if you do not want to dive but instead are looking to do some snorkeling, fishing, or just swimming?
3. Before booking specific Hawaii scuba diving holidays through the cruise line, comparison shop with local vendors. The same is true for the island bike tour – speak directly to the vendors and compare package prices. Your may be surprised to learn that the same exact trip costs more when you book it directly through the cruise line!
4. Last but not least, whatever activity you choose to engage in off the cruise ship, do not plan on going in without advance planning! Whether you are trying to enjoy Hawaii scuba diving, bike riding, hiking, or with a helicopter tour, keep in mind that some tourists against whom you will be competing are actually on their Hawaii scuba diving vacations! They will have reservations, paid for their trips, and most likely also have the gear reserved (for those in Hawaii scuba diving); those who like the helicopter tours will also find that the copter may very well already be booked solid for the remainder of the day.
