Bam Margera

Skateboarding may not be quite as popular as football, basketball, and baseball, but the sport still has its superstars. Perhaps one of the most popular stars in the world of skating is Bam Margera. Bam Margera owes his fame in part to his skateboarding skills, but also in part to his appearances on the wildly popular MTV show Jackass. The Jackass show led to a series of movies as part of the franchise, and the popularity of Bam on these shows also earned him two MTV reality TV shows, Viva La Bam and Bam’s Unholy Union, which chronicled Bam’s engagement and wedding planning with girlfriend Michelle Rothschild. Some hardcore skaters dislike Bam’s public persona, because they believe much of his popularity has nothing and to do with skateboarding, and they believe he “sold out” for fame and fortune. Like him or not, however, Bam is skateboarding’s biggest star and has brought the sport to the masses. With the likes of Bam Margera on the scene, skateboarding is moving away from being an underground sport and moving towards the mainstream.

About Bam Margera

Bam Margera was given the name Brian Cole Margera by his parents but legally changed his name to Bam in the early 2000s. He got his start in skateboarding with Team Element and built a decent reputation for himself among skating enthusiasts, but it wasn’t until the MTV Jackass phenomenon started that he really became a household name. Bam’s fame saw him win more mainstream admiration, but also saw him lose some of his shine in the world of skateboarding. Still, his brand of comedy on TV led to the popularity of the skateboarding bail videos that now all over the internet.
